Falling Walls Lab Hong Kong 2016

The first Falling Walls Lab Hong Kong was held on 27 September 2016 at HKUST. The Competition inaugurated by President Tony Chan was a resounding success, with enthusiastic participation from our staff, students and even alumni.

The Lab has been an exciting platform for our young talents to present their innovative ideas with the aim to spark discourse and make groundbreaking impact to society.

A distinguished jury, comprising senior faculty members and staff, evaluated submissions first at the qualifying round then subsequently at the Competition. The winner will represent HKUST at the Falling Walls Lab Finals in Berlin, a world stage of innovators. Up to 100 participants from around the world, each a winner in their respective country/city, will pitch their innovation to peers and a distinguished jury from academia and business, including the Chairman of the Board, Nobel Foundation.

The top 3 winners of the Lab Finals will be invited to present at the Falling Walls Conference, a prestigious annual global gathering of forward thinking individuals from more than 80 countries. The Lab Finals is on 8 November, and the Falling Walls Conference on 9 November, the day the Berlin Wall fell, 27 years ago (1989). We wish our representative, Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering PhD student, Mr Daniel Villaroman, all the best at the Finals and an enriching experience.
